The role

As a Claims Handler you will be responsible for dealing with new and existing claims, ensuring that these are handled accurately and with professionalism.
With excellent communication skills both written and verbal, it is vitally important that you hold a positive manner at all times, providing a high level of customer service.

Responsibilities & Duties:
- To supervise or carry out the claims function of insurance, ensuring fair treatment of our clients
- Provide advice on making a claim and the processes involved
- Process new insurance claim notifications
- Collect accurate information and documentation to proceed with a claim
- Analyse a claim made by a policymaker to establish whether it satisfies the policy conditions
- Guide policyholders on how to proceed with the claim
- Identify reasons why full payment may not be made
- Provide an explanation to policyholders when their claim is not covered
- Contact trades people from a network of approved professionals, and arrange for them to make repairs on the policyholder’s property
- Monitor the progress of a claim
- Investigate potentially fraudulent claims
- Liaise with solicitors, as well as other legal and claims professionals, and negotiate the terms of a claim
- Prepare an initial estimate of costs and then closely monitor and keep a record of these
- Get advice from external specialists, such as loss adjusters and forensic accountants, on complex cases
- Ensure fair settlement of a valid claim
- Ensure the customer is treated fairly and that the customer receives excellent service in accordance with industry and company guidelines
- Proactively contact other stakeholders to ensure communication with all parties is up to date
- Work strictly within the limits afforded to SJL by insurers via delegated authority binders
- Be the point for audits and insurer meetings
- To ensure that all communications with brokers, new business teams and insurers are accurately recorded as per the firm’s procedures manual
- To develop ongoing, mutually beneficial relationships with brokers, clients, introducers, loss adjustors, loss assessors and insurers
- Adhere to all company policies as detailed in the company handbook
Skills Required:
- Ability to prioritise and organise own workload to ensure that deadlines are adhered to
- Ability to construct effective written communications, including letters, emails and reports
- Ability to liaise confidently and effectively via the telephone, in writing and face to face
- Able to manage time effectively
- Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of insurance contracts including current market conditions
- Knowledge and understanding of FCA rules and guidelines as well as GDPR & IDD
- Knowledge and understanding of the firms IT system and use of its own quotation engines
- Willingness to continue to learn and develop
- To always be open and cooperative with the FCA, the PRA, and any other regulators including compliance teams for e.g.
- To observe the correct standards of market conduct
